CHILDREN OF WAR

90x60 cm

Spray Paint and Marker on paper

2014

One of my earlier projects, where I used a street art drawing style to create a piece that denounced the brutality of war, especially on children, who are forced to grow in warzones and adapt to their inhuman surroundings.

INTRODUCTION

This was one of my earliest works which used a contrast of colors to emphasize specific aspects of the artwork. The contrast, in this case, is created between the bright colors of the tank, the obstacles, the child on the swing, and the monochromatic grey of the sky and ground.

MEANING BEHIND THE PROJECT

I created this work as a response to the war in Syria, which not only brought massive destruction to the region, but it also caused the death of thousands of innocents. These people including hundreds of children were forced to adapt to the war-torn environment, trying to continue their lives as best they could. In some cases, pictures show kids trying to find a spark of happiness by playing in bomb holes, and with the remains of buildings. This sense of fake happiness is what I tried to recreate in this piece, displaying a girl on a swing that is tied to a destroyed tank.
